World’s first single-chip DVB-T+analog TV receiver reduces complexity and cost of adding live TV

SUNNYVALE, CA – January 16, 2009 – Telegent Systems, the company that makes television mobile, today announced the TLG2300, a single-chip CMOS hybrid TV receiver that solves the technical and integration challenges of adding live TV to personal computers (PCs) and portable devices. The TLG2300 delivers the performance, low power and high integration needed to meet and exceed the requirements for embedding live TV in laptops, netbooks and mobile internet devices (MIDs), eliminating the barriers that until now have constrained the PC TV market. The TLG2300 supports digital (DVB-T) and analog (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) TV and FM radio, enabling global PC TV solutions in a single SKU.

“With the technical innovation delivered by the TLG2300, live TV can now become a standard feature in PCs, laptops and other portable devices” said Weijie Yun, president and CEO of Telegent Systems. “TV is a particularly intuitive feature for media-centric devices such as netbooks and MIDs that allows manufacturers to differentiate their products and penetrate non-digital and emerging markets where analog support is required.”

World’s first single-chip hybrid (digital + analog) solution for free-to-air PC TV applications

The TLG2300 is the world’s first single-chip solution supporting both DVB-T and worldwide analog TV standards. In countries transitioning to DVB-T, the TLG2300 combines the benefits of digital TV with the ubiquitous availability of analog, ensuring live TV reception regardless of digital deployment. Support for analog standards extends target markets to countries where there is no imminent digital conversion, which accounts for more than 85% of the world’s population through 2012.

TLG2300 reduces complexity and cost of adding live TV to portable devices, including netbooks

The TLG2300 reduces power by 75%, size by 50% and TV feature cost by 60% relative to existing solutions while delivering industry-leading video sensitivity and picture quality with margin to key NorDig specifications. With the industry’s lowest hybrid thermal profile and smallest size, the TLG2300 can be reliably embedded into laptops and netbooks. Its high integration reduces the number of external components as well as overall feature cost, finally making live TV possible in a wide range of applications, including low-cost netbooks, which are forecast as a fast, new growing market.

High integration enables half-mini card form factors

The TLG2300 integrates the RF tuner, demodulator, decoder, audio/video processing, FM stereo radio, and USB 2.0 interface in less than 4.25 cm2 of board space enabling the industry’s first hybrid TV single-sided, four-layer, half-mini PCIe form factor. Telegent provides a complete system solution including antenna design and recommendations, hardware reference designs and bundled Microsoft-certified and Linux drivers.
