TuneUp Utilities, a leading provider of PC optimisation software, has been awarded the 'Software of the year' award by Softwareload.co.uk. TuneUp Utilities 2010 was awarded first place in the 'Tuning' category, ahead of Registry Mechanic and SpeedUpMyPC, who were awarded second and third places.

The inaugural awards were judged by an expert panel of technology journalists and Softwareload executives and attracted 30,000 people to vote online for their favourite PC and mobile software. The awards included 17 categories - 12 for PC software and five for mobile apps.

Tibor Schiemann, President and Managing Partner for TuneUp Utilities, commented, "We are delighted to win this award. We spent a year developing the software and we have worked hard to feature improved innovations and enhancements from previous versions."

TuneUp most recently released the latest version of its software, TuneUp Utilities 2011, in October. The software delivers over 30 optimisation tools and functions and incorporates the following enhancements:

* TuneUp Program Deactivator - allows users to turn off programs to significantly reduce the load on their PCs. TuneUp Programs-on-Demand Technology ensures that all services, start-up entries, background processes and scheduled tasks of disabled programs remain inactive until needed again, offering a true performance boost.
* TuneUp Turbo Mode - enables users to increase the performance of their PCs while working with resource-heavy applications. With a single click, users can shut down more than 70 background processes that slow down Windows 7, XP and Vista.
* Tuning Status - Shows how many optimisation TuneUp Utilities has performed and where the potential for tuning remains.
