Company to aggressively target new markets and distribution channels
Freecom, an award-winning manufacturer of external hard drives and portable storage devices, today announced the opening of its new UK office and the appointment of David Pye as UK channel manager and Tim Stevenson as national account manager, UK. Freecom’s UK expansion will see the company launch new solutions for new markets and offer improved support for resellers over the next year. Together, Pye and Stevenson bring with them more than 20 years experience in the distribution and retail channels, making them ideally placed to grow Freecom’s UK business.
Freecom has been providing reliable storage solutions throughout Europe for 20 years. Following the success of its ongoing partnership with CCI Distribution in Harrogate, a wholly owned daughter company of Freecom Holding, and the significant additions Freecom will be making to its innovating product line-up in 2009, the company is now looking to expand its reach into new markets, in particular in the public sector and B2B markets with an exciting new range of vendor products and aggressive business development plan.
As part of this growth, Freecom plans to sign new partners and in turn offer a much needed additional credit line for resellers. Computers Unlimited, an independent European distributor specialising in Apple solutions, has already been signed up and Northamber, a trade-only distributor of IT equipment in the UK, will continue to be a key partner.
David Pye was appointed as UK channel manager in January, and brings with him twelve years experience in channel development. As part of his previous role over the past two years, Pye worked closely with Freecom, and as such he knows both the company’s solutions and the channel inside out.
“For distributors and resellers, partnering with Freecom makes sense. Everyone needs portable storage and to partner with a company that has simple to use, proven, award-winning technology will bring the channel significant opportunities to grow their customer base and boost profit margins,” said David Pye. “Our focus will be customer driven, working closely with the channel to provide training and support to both distributor and resellers.”
At the same time, Tim Stevenson, whose background is in retail, joined Freecom as national account manager, UK.
“It’s an exciting time to be working with a company with such aggressive growth plans,” said Tim Stevenson. “There’s so much doom and gloom surrounding the economy – Freecom is the opposite. And, with everyone needing reliable and secure storage, we’re in an ideal situation to further capitalise on the consumer market, as well as make significant inroads with businesses. With Freecom products, resellers can make significantly more margin than with other competing brands.”
“With David and Tim onboard, we’re really confident that our UK business is going to prosper,” said Jan-Willem Meinesz, SVP EMEA, Freecom. “Our ongoing partnership with CCI – which is the UK’s largest Freecom distributor - has put us in a very strong position in this country as people already know and trust our products. In line with Freecom’s strategy to expand into the B2B and public sector markets, we want to work closely with the distribution channel and resellers to make these solutions available to a much wider market.
Freecom will be exhibiting its latest solutions at stand F122 in the Planet Reseller Hall (25) at this year’s CeBIT (3rd - 8th March, Hannover).
