Sans Digital EliteNAS w/ True Hardware RAID 6 – EN208L+BXE / EN312L+BXE / EN316L+BXE

City of Industry, CA – August 27, 2009 – Sans Digital, a leading provider of high performance storage subsystems, is expanding its EliteNAS series by adding NAS / iSCSI unified storage solutions with built-in hardware RAID engines to further improve overall performance. The newly designed 2U 8-bay EN208L+BXE, 2U 12-bay EN212L+BXE, and 3U 16-bay EN316L+BXE NAS rackmounts allow a capacity of up to 32TB in a single unit, while fulfilling the demands of storage hungry environments with optimal performance.

Software RAID has been the most common form of RAID used for network storage solutions, where the units utilize on-board SATA ports and central processors for operating system based RAID calculation. With software RAID, the NAS’s processor must dedicate processing time to calculate the RAID parities, which in turn interferes with the performance of data transfers and advanced storage features. Recovery time would also be noticeably extended due to congestion caused by extra data required for RAID calculation. The newly released EliteNAS series are designed with a dedicated hardware RAID IO processor to reduce the workload of the central processor. This allows the incorporation of features such as Snapshot, which could not be tolerated by other NAS solutions with low-level performances. By utilizing a dedicated RAID processor, the EliteNAS is capable of read and write speeds of over 80MB/s per channel as an iSCSI unit, and over 90MB/s per channel as a network storage unit.

In addition to hardware RAID engines, the EN208L+BXE is built with the latest Intel Xeon E3110 processor and 2GB of dual channel DDR-2 memory, while EN212L+BXE and EN316L+BXE are built with Intel Xeon E5504 Nehalem processor and 3GB of triple channel DDR-3 memory. Supporting Windows, Mac and Linux networking, all three models provide cross-platform data sharing as well as iSCSI function for VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines. “The performances of many NAS units on the market are limited due to the exhaustion of their processing power,” said Grandy Chen, Sans Digital President. “The EliteNAS series not only uses Xeon processors to provide additional horsepower to run advanced features, its capability to offload RAID calculations results in smoother operations for mission critical applications.” For more information on the EliteNAS series, please visit: EliteNAS.
