Computex, Taipei, Taiwan, 3 June 2008 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of power efficient x86 processor platforms, today announced that the recently launched VIA Nano processor and the VIA VX800 all-in-one digital media IGP chipset received the coveted ‘Best of Computex’ award by the Taiwan Computer Association and the Taiwan External Trade Council (TAITRA), during a morning ceremony today.
The judging panel honoured VIA’s entry in the LSI/VLSI Category for Mobile Platforms for its ultra low power, miniaturization and optimized performance that will help drive the new breed of ultra portable and small form factor PCs. Also praised was the platform’s high-level integration, as well as its pin-to-pin compatibility with the VIA C7® processor family, giving OEMs and motherboard vendors a smooth upgrade transition for system or board designs.
“
We are delighted that our new processor platform has won this award, as it not only underlines our leadership in power efficiency and miniaturization in x86 platform design but is testimony to the industry-wide move towards small yet full-featured x86 devices,” said Epan Wu, Director of CPU Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “
We expect that the blend of optimized performance, power efficiency and functionality will further expand the market for small form factor and ultra portable devices.”
Today’s Best of Computex award follows yesterday’s Design and Innovation Award for the new VIA OpenBook mini-note reference design, affirming VIA’s breadth of expertise in ultra power efficient processor platform design and its commitment to the rapidly growing global market for ultra-portable notebooks. Live demonstrations of the VIA Nano processor, the VIA VX800 digital media IGP chipset and the VIA OpenBook mini-note reference design can be seen in the VIA booth in room 201D of the Taipei International Convention Centre.
