6: Bully
Who makes it: Rockstar
When is it out: Summer
Why is it good: The makers of the
Grand Theft Auto series have a knack of turning very controversial subjects into highly entertaining games - almost everything they touch turns to gold. This time the subject is bullying at school, a topic that is extra sensitive. Little information is known about what the content of the game will include. One imagines a bit of comedy, huge levels, teacher misery and lots of violence - but the true nature of the game is shrouded in mystery. Will it end up promoting a school-positive message to satisfy the critics?
I am going out on a limb and saying that
Bully will be the biggest game for the Playstation 2 in 2006.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was a huge success, proving that a lack of political correctness and a decent dollop of controversy can be a winning factor.
What could go wrong? Quite simply it could be too controversial to get released.
5: Halo 3
Who makes it: Bungie Studios
When is it out: Bill Gates has said "whenever the PS3 is launched", but recently retracted that statement. It looks more like late 2006.
Why is it good: Come on, really? The biggest console gaming franchise at the moment is, with good reason, hot property for Gates and his merry men. Add this to the fact that Bungie Software is now getting to play with the awesome power of the 360 and you have an instant recipe for ‘Great Game Cakes’. Master Chief will be back as of course will the awesome multiplayer, and with an improved Xbox Live service I imagine
Halo will be one of the games that takes full advantage of it, multiplayer games and content updates being first on the agenda.
Also bear in mind that the Halo movie, penned by Alex Garland, will be coming out in 2007 - so by the end of 2006 we could be going Halo mental. Which isn’t a bad thing – unless you only own a Playstation.
What could go wrong? Already Gates has been stuttering and stammering when being pressed about the release date. Bungie are also notorious for taking their time over games, so don’t be too surprised if
Halo 3 isn't released until 2007 to coincide with the movie.
