With the batten completed, the back panel was made from 6mm thick medium density fibreboard (MDF), using a cordless circular saw. A rectangle was cut out of the panel to accommodate the power supply.
A mounting plate for the power supply was fabricated from a sheet of aluminium. The power supply mounting from the scrapped case was used as a template to mark out the aluminium for the new panel. I knew that pile of scrap metal would come in handy! The mounting panel was cut out using a rotary tool.
Here is the power supply, a Zalman ZM400B-APS. This unit was chosen partly for its small size as well as its quiet performance. Time for a test fit…
