A base assumption

With the whole case back from the powder coaters, it was time to get to work on the base. The white powder coat would provide a great contrast to the black and grey carbon fibre, but that didn't mean it couldn't use a little extra help - it was time to light it up.


We mentioned before how Ediejo drilled holes through the base - now it was time to wire up 24 bright 5mm LEDs. Initially he had chosen a purple colour, but then changed his mind and went for green - the colour of his sponsors.


The finished LEDs were definitely bright enough, but the base really lacked any of the flair that he was hoping to have - namely, it was just plain old white.


Ediejo fixed the white with some carbon fibre strips that he cut and adhered to the top of the base behind the LEDs.


After copious filing, the base was more or less complete. The carbon fibre lights up nicely behind the green LEDs, sandwiched between the base and the case above.
