ToTecHniKa by Alexis Ftoulis
Original bit-tech Project Log Here
Foreword by Antony Leather
Mods and scratchbuilds come in all different shapes, sizes and colours here at
bit-tech. The sheer variety of projects in general are what make our
modding forums special.
You only have to look at our competitions like
Mod of the Month and
Mod the Year to see just how rich and varied the projects you'll find are. There really is something for everyone.
Alexis Ftoulis is a relative new comer to
bit-tech, joining about a year ago, but this hasn't stopped him building a great reputation on the forums. If anyone says you need to be an old timer to do well here, they're wrong. Alexis is a case in point with his first project,
AnGEL coming a spectacular 4th out of 21 nominees in
bit-tech's 2009 Mod of the Year competition and winning Mod of the Month in April of last year along the way.
With AnG3L, which is also Alexis' forum name, having been completed nearly a year ago, we were wondering when his next project would appear. Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long and ToTecHniKa began in September last year. This one is hot of the press too - finished just a few weeks ago, ToTecHniKa looks uniquely stunning. Alexis has managed to turn around a behind the scenes look at how he made it too - complete with more than a few photos and even some videos of him in action. Enjoy!
Totem + Technology = Totechnika
My name is Alex Ftoulis and I've been interested in case modding since 2006 but messing
with computers in general since 1996. The idea and concept of my latest case mod project, Totechnika, started to form before I finished AnG3L, which was my first official project.
Everything is based on the native American Indian culture and also their technology. I decided to use the Totem theme from what I've seen of their religion and culture which also spawned the name Totechnika.
Here's a brief description of what totem is from Wikipedia:
"
A totem is any supposed entity that watches over or assists a group of people, such as a family, clan, or tribe. Totems support larger groups than the individual person. In kinship and descent, if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, it is called a totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a totemic myth."
For this mod I used my old Thermaltake Armor LCS which was already slightly modded. So really I sacrificed one mod for a more superior one. I fully disassembled the case down to its component parts and also removed the original paint scheme. This took quite a while to do but the colour wasn't what I wanted so it needed to be done.
This is all part of the modding process really. After the old paint was removed I sanded the whole case ready for priming and painting. Also a lot of steel has been removed to be replaced with aluminum, mesh, acrylic.
