Phase 2 Casemodding – Brake Line

by brinkz0r
Worklog: Here

brinkz0r is one of the most prolific modders on the bit-tech forums and nowhere can you see more fine examples of his mods than in the ongoing Phase 2 Casemodding project log. There’s all manner of weird and wonderful designs mainly totally custom using acrylic.

However, amongst the various stunning water-cooling reservoir designs (we particularly liked the B-res reservoir) we came across one of the most amazing fan grills we’ve ever seen!

Called ‘Brake Line’ brinkz0r started with a CAD image for the various parts to the mod and proceeded to cut them out piece by piece using a jigsaw. First up were the black rings that form a circle and sit against the fan, then the yellow semicircles that add the unusual 3D aspect to the mod. These were sanded at the base to create the right angles for fitment and then glued together.

The effect under an LED looks great with the yellow acrylic. It would be fun to see what other colours look like too. Here we can see the two sections mounted together in all their symmetrical goodness!

Now the final part to be fitted – black guards that run round the perimeter of the yellow fins through pre-cut holes. After the mod’s name, the intention was to use brake line shroud but this proved to be too stiff. Instead brinkz0r found that coax cable was the right tool for the job. It certainly looks the part. All lit up under blue LED lights, Brake Line looks simply fan-tastic.
