Lotsa Guns!
While it would have been both tempting and possible for me to use some actual knobs and dials
(or dials and knobs, if you prefer to save your knobs for later - Ed) to make up the front of the Dispenser, that isn't what I chose to do.
Instead, the doo-hickeys and thinga-majigs were made by hand and from scratch from pieces of dowel and old bottle tops.
I try to recycle old bits, bobs, odds and ends
(or ends and odds, if you prefer to save your knobs for later - Ed) because it helps to keep the cost down and the world a little greener.
Doing this is more time consuming and means that the work can take a little bit longer, but it also makes it that much more satisfying when you're done - to sit back and know that you built everything in that mod, from scratch and by hand.
With that first half done (or sixth, I lose track), it's time to start putting the finishing touches to the front of the Dispenser - namely the delivery slot at the bottom of the unit which swings open and drops bullets, grenades and other such weapons of hilarious carnage into the player's inventory.
There's also the ammo belt to consider, which is mounted on the side of the case. It seems from the design that the Heavy class uses so much ammo that he has to have a delivery dispenser of his own - what a hog!
After that it only remains to add the final vinyl stickers to the slot, mount the chain of bullets - more about those in the second article, which will detail the construction of the Sentry and it's dual gattling guns - and give everything a nice polish.
On the next page the fully unveiled Dispenser, in all it's cartoony glory!
