Lian Li: NAS boxes, Mac Pro style cases and watercooling
BT: What does Lian Li see the future of the PC case market becoming, and what future plans does the company have?
LiLi: The market trend is towards mobile and notebooks, and Apple has recently launched its popular iPad too, however we believe there will still be a market for high-end computers at home. Lian Li will continue to design innovative compact and space-saving PC chassis, for example
HTPC cases and small form factor. We believe this market will continue to expand.
Lian Li's EX-20N NAS Box
Right now the HTPC market isn't great but we believe it will increase in time and we have a lot of new upcoming HTPC designs for this. The
Q08 was introduced just a year ago and has been a large new market growth for us, so we've also invested in new small form factor cases too.
We plan to offer future small form factor cases that are painted white with a UV reactive and protective coating as well.
BT: Is Lian Li interested in the NAS box market at all?
[Ed: it recently OEMed the Fractal Design Array R2.]
LiLi: The EX-20N
[two bay NAS box] has just launched and the feedback is excellent, so we also have the EX-40N
[four bay NAS box], which is being tested and will be released once it has passed Lian Li's internal quality tests.
BT: What happened to the Mac Pro style cases with the entirely perforated front grille? And all those alternative upside-down internal designs?
LiLi: We will launch the PC-V1020 next month that replicates that front grille design. The case will be available to buy in October.
BT: Why don't Lian Li cases support more standard water-cooling mounts for dual-120mm and triple-120mm radiators with 15mm spacing?
LiLi: Lian Li already has three models that support internal watercooling mounts which are the A70F, A71F (dual) and new V2120 (triple) and we will continue to design new models with support in future.
