The case performs well straight out of the box, with changes to fan placement not making a great deal of difference to the performance. That mesh front panel really lets the case breath well, as there's also little improvement when it's removed. At 36dB, it's also not terribly loud with the fans at full pace, either, and at 50 per cent it's barely heard and still has enough airflow to keep the 375W load in check. Up against the other cases I've tested in their stock formations, the little SilentiumPC case does really well, trading blows with the Corsair 7000X while running 2dB quieter. Looking at the more expanded set-up table that's in order of volume, the Regnum outperforms the MSI Velox 100R at similar noise levels of 32-ish dB, with both cases at 50 per cent fan speed. Impressive for a case that costs half as much, but not as impressive as its 50 per cent fan speed result outperforming the Velox in its stock configuration at 100 per cent fan speed, while showing the benefit of a well-ventilated panel.
The case does a lot of things well; it looks smart, cools well straight out the box and can hold a decent amount of kit, even if filling it means getting a little inventive with your cable routing. Despite the steel being a touch thinner, it's more stable and rigid than the MSI Velox 100R and besides the fans, there weren't any rough, jagged edges, with all the panels and edges well finished.
The only problem is the same one that befouls a lot of the custom PC market, pricing and availability. When released the case had an RRP of €56, or €69 for the ARGB version, making it a cracking £50 case. But at the time of writing, I could only find it available at a couple of questionable retailers for around £75. I still think you'd be getting a decent case with great stock-cooling capacity at that price, but it would be competing against cases like the Corsair 4000D Airflow and Fractal Meshify C, which are more refined and are of a higher-quality construction. Scan currently has a number of other SilentiumPC cases at £50-60, including the Ventum VT4V TG, which is of a very similar make-up to the Regnum, and could well be worth a shot for a budget build.
