The same is true for File Decryption too – both encyption and decryption performance don't look all that smart at this point in time, based on a single synthetic benchmark. I guess that time will tell here and I think it is something that warrants a closer look when Core 2 Duo chips have launched.
Conroe performs well in the single threaded audio compression benchmark, outperforming the Pentium Extreme Edition 965 by nearly 40%. However, the mutli-tasking performance appears to let Conroe down a little, as it actually performed worse than the Presler chip when it multi-tasking is taken into account.
Image compression is another area where the Conroe chip outperformed the current flagship Extreme Edition 965 chip by around 20%. Again though, the Core 2 Duo E6700 appears to get hit harder than Intel's current flagship in a multi-tasking scenario. However, it does manage to hold onto its performance lead by a whisker.
