Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming Overclocking Results

With EVGA PrecisionX, we pushed the thermal and power limits to their maximums of 122 percent and 91°C respectively. With these settings, we were able to add an extra 160MHz to the core, taking it to a base clock of 1,388MHz. This is 13 percent faster than Gigabyte's frequency and 23 percent faster than a reference model. Better yet, the card was happy boosting to a massive 1,540MHz without issue, staying at this frequency constantly when under load. This is the highest frequency we've seen so far from any GTX 980 or GTX 970 card.

The memory was able to stay stable up to 7.7GHz effective, a 10 percent increase. This is exactly in line with every other GM204-based card we've seen so far, which isn't surprising given that they've all used the same Samsung memory chips. At this speed, the memory bandwidth goes from 224GB/sec to 246.4GB/sec.
