Testing

To test the powerline adaptors we first placed two identical units alone in plug sockets approximately four metres apart in different rooms to get an idea of how they perform in a typical usage scenario. You should remember that the results differ from property to property depending on the quality and configuration of your electrical wiring. We then placed one of each pair in a power strip which also powered a PC, monitor and set-top box to see how much of a drop-off they experienced due to electronic noise.

Finally, while not a typical usage scenario, we then placed the two adaptors side by side in a power strip to see what their maximum speed was given ideal conditions. To test the speed of the adaptors we transferred a 1.5GB video file from one to the other via a Gigabit router and recorded the time it took to get a speed in MB/sec.
