Cracking Open the Asus Eee Keyboard PC

The casing comes off with removal of the screws underneath and some gentle persuasion. Inside there's a custom size Eee Keyboard PCB and a few others for the wireless and external connectors.


Inside Asus packs an Intel Atom D330, 1GB of DDR2 memory and a Broadcom Crystal HD display chip, as well as the associated hardware for ultra wide band display (from Realtek), 802.11n WiFi (from and the battery.


The eight Nanya DDR2 memory chips and two Samsung NAND ICs are soldered to the actual PCB itself - the Keyboard is not at all designed to be upgradable.


Asus claims four hours life from that integrated 4,900mAh/35Wh Lithium Polymer battery, and admittedly we've no idea how much use this display model has seen, but our sample burned through it in a fraction of that time. Even after fully charging it we couldn't even get an hour out of it when using the remote display and wireless.
