In my professional life, I’ve had to write a fair bit of filler over the years and I’ve had to make a fair few things which weren’t, sound interesting – but I think this is the first time I’ve had to do it for
bit-tech.
So, it’s a SATA II cable, made by Akasa, which is UV reactive. Probably the most interesting thing about it is the confusion about whether it should glow on its own or not. To answer; no, it won’t. It’s UV
reactive, so it’ll only glow if you put a UV light on it.
This page probably isn’t helped by the fact that we took the one interesting thing about the product and then just explained it away in the first few sentences. No jokes, nothing. Maybe we should throw a custard pie to balance it out, but since you wouldn’t be able to see that probably wouldn’t make a huge difference either.
If it helps though, I did just flick an elastic band at Richard and hit him in the back of the head with it. He didn’t like that.
Back to the SATA II cable anyway, it is important to note that the only defining feature of this cable is that it’s done in a UV reactive colour, so it’ll look funky under a ultra-violent bulb. However, there are two things you should be concerned about there; the first is that anything white will reflect UV too, so this SATA II cable isn’t exactly astounding for that.
The second is that most people don’t have an 80’s roller disco going on inside their PC chassis anyway, so that whole UV thing is going to be a bit wasted.
The SATA II cable itself is as good as any other SATA II cable and there’s so little to say about it that even the official Akasa press release we got sent was only one sentence long.
It's hard to take more than one interesting photo of a SATA cable, but easy to take pictures of Harry modeling the Nova LAN-Bag. Click for a humiliatingly large picture. I honestly don't know how every picture of him continually translates like he's having the time of his life?!
Now, I’m going to put the rest of the critical information in a bullet-point form. It isn’t exactly great journalistic practice to display that information so bluntly and boringly – but I’ve got a whole page to fill here on a damn SATA II cable!
- Transfer speed of 3Gb/s
- UV reactive colour
- 60cm long
- Backwards compatible to SATA I
- One straight SATA connector
- One 90 degree SATA connector with metal clip!
- Yeah, that’s about it.
- It’s a SATA cable, what did you expect?
There really isn’t anything else to say about this; it’s a SATA II cable. It’s exactly like all other SATA II cables with the exception that if you have a UV light in your case then this’ll serve as a constant reminder of how l33t you think you are.
Verdict: The most impressive thing about this cable is how much we’ve been able to waffle about it. Maybe we should have taken a picture of Harry holding it...
