AS SSD Benchmark Results

Website: AS SSD

AS SSD is a freeware benchmarking tool designed just for SSDs, performing a battery of sequential read and write tests, as well as random read and write tests and sequential access tests over a 3GB portion of the drive. As Windows 7's caching technology makes using real world tests such as FC-Test almost impossible, this is the next best test for judging sequential read and write speeds. It also produces accurate access times, and is wonderfully easy to use.

AS SSD's benchmark uses data that is predominantly incompressible, which negates much of SandForce's DuraWrite compression technology. This means that it can be seen as a worst case scenario for drives that use compression, such as the OCZ Vertex 3.

What a lemon of a firmware update. The big drop in performance suggests this might be a workaround for a hardware problem.

Posted by mclean007 - Wed Feb 01 2012 09:49

Bof. Mediocre performance and not hugely competitive prices. I'll pass.

I stopped reading as soon as I saw the price. Of course I should have stopped reading as soon as I saw the OCZ badge.

This is a very expensive SSD- overpriced considering the much higher quality Crucial M4 512GB has been popping up once in awhile on sale at NCIX and NewEgg for $550- a significantly cheaper price for a faster drive.

My personal opinion of OCZ may be rather colored, but I haven't experienced a single OCZ product that did not produce issues down the road (PSU's, SSD's, etc).
