Bethesda has apparently been looking to bring the
Fallout universe to mobile platforms for a while now, with the iPhone being an obvious focus, but the
Elder Scrolls developer has said that it's yet to find a game style that it thinks works well enough to justify the effort.
"
We've looked into those things," said Bethesda front-man Todd Howard in an E3 2009 interview with
Joystiq. "
We just haven't found the thing that supports the brand well."
"
I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform. I think some of the things we do like VATS, I think that could translate to any platform, particularly the iPhone."
"
I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen one day. The iPhone versions that we've designed and said 'Ehh, we don't think we're going to do that right now,' there are ... there are a lot of them."
Bethesda isn't the only big-time RPG-developer looking to get a slice of the iPhone market either, with BioWare on the verge of releasing a
new Mass Effect title for the iPhone, among others.
