Epic: "Wii is a virus"

Epic's President Mike Capps isn't the world's biggest fan of the Nintendo Wii, we think it would be fair to say. Speaking at this year's New York Comic Con, the President of all things Unreal hammered home just how awful he thinks this whole motion-sensitive thing is.

"It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on," Capps told IGN.

"Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there's a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I'm still waiting for that one game that makes me play it."

Hmm - the man does make some compelling points. While Nintendo has certainly opened up the Wii as the most accessible console with games like Wii Sports and the upcoming Wii Fit, the hardcore gamer has been a little undernourished lately. Super Mario Galaxy is all well and good, but the games need to be a little more regular perhaps.

That said, the Wii is a remarkable step forward for the games industry and Capp's reasoning that there'll never be an Epic-made Wii game because "we go forward, not back" does seem a little mean.

What do you think about the Wii? Revolutionary console for the masses or gimmick-based Gamecube for the foolish? Let us know in the forums.
