Games and movies are an odd thing. In theory, they should be quite close to each other and translation from one format to another should be relatively painless and easy. In reality, film-makers rarely play games and woefully misunderstand the medium, churning out god-awful pieces of drivel like the second
Resident Evil movie or anything by
Uwe Boll.
That doesn't stop movies of games being made though and the latest in the list of games to be savaged by the churning wheels of Hollywood is
EverQuest.
Sony has just announced to
Variety Online that it has signed Michael B. Gordon, writer of
300 to the film. Don't get too excited by that link though - remember that
300 was practically already in Frank Miller's awesome comic book.
Also signed up to be part of the project is Avi Arad who has taken the role of Producer. Avi has a mixed history as a producer and has worked on everything from
Spider-Man 3 to
The Bratz Movie - so it could go either way.
There's no plot details or release date announced, but we do know that the film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, if that makes any difference to you at all.
Will you be popping along to see the movie if it ever gets released or is
EverQuest a bit last millennium for your tastes? Let us know in
the forums.
