Far Cry 2 is an odd title and though we were originally very,
very sceptical that Ubisoft would manage to make a decent game from the franchise without the help of original developer Cry Tek, when we actually went hands-on with the game last we were actually very impressed.
Which makes us all the more excited by the announcement of the imminent release. Ubisoft has just announced that
Far Cry 2 will be released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 24th of October 2008.
In addition to the getting a standard release though, Ubisoft has teamed up with UK retailer GAME to offer a special Collector's Edition of the game too. It seems as if the Collector's Edition of the game will not be available to buy through Gamestation, even though the two market leaders are owned by the same parent company.
The Collector's Edition version of the game comes with a t-shirt, art book and a fold-out map of the playing area. There's also a making-of DVD and a nice wooden box to keep the whole collection in.
Ubisoft will also be distributing the game with a super-powerful map editor that Ubi promises will allow players to make complex maps in only a few minutes.
Far Cry 2 itself casts players as a mercenary operating in a section of Africa measuring at 50 square kilometres. The aim of the game is to take down a merciless gun-runner known as The Jackal. For more information though, as well as details of how the game feels to play and how it looks, you can check out our comprehensive
