Blizzard’s successful free-to-play digital card game Hearthstone is due to get its first major expansion which will add more than 100 new cards.
Talking to
Polygon, Hearthstone production director Jason Chayes explained that one of the important things they are considering is pacing the content to make sure it’s suitable for veteran players as well as players fresh to the game.
’We really want to pay attention to how that is for the entirety of the player base. Does that feel like the right amount of content? Is it too little? Is it too much? We feel like this is a good starting point,’ said Chayes.
Additional game modes and more single player challenges could also be on the cards, but unlikely to be included in any upcoming expansions.
Hearthstone has already received a smaller expansion in the form of Curse of Naxxramas, which added 30 new cards to the game along with some single player challenges themed around the Naxxramas raid in World of Warcraft. This has been well received and Blizzard is apparently happy with how this has performed.
Further details about upcoming updates to Hearthstone are likely to be coming during BlizzCon in November with Chayes promising that further news will be coming soon.
Hearthstone launched in March this year with an iPad version following in April and at present, there are more than 20 million registered accounts for it. The game has also been making inroads in the eSports scene, proving to be a popular title at tournaments.
