The team behind classic puzzle franchise Myst has announced a launch date for its latest title, Obduction: July 26, a mere nine months after its original launch deadline.
Announced
back in 2013 as a Kickstarter-funded project due to launch in October 2015, Cyan's Obduction aimed to pick up where the Myst franchise of first-person puzzle titles left off. As is usual for crowdfunded projects, however, its launch date sailed past without the release of the game - but the company claims it is now on-track to launch the game on July 26 on Windows and OS X, with a special version being added to the Oculus Store for use with the company's virtual reality headsets.
'
We’re so excited to once again immerse players in new worlds that offer that same feeling that Myst did — of being swept away into a story and environments that become their world, claimed Rand Miller, chief executive and co-founder of Cyan, of the impending launch. '
It’s been invigorating to build this new place with today's technology to offer the best PC and Mac experience we could. And Obduction in VR crosses an exciting threshold in a new immersive era.'
The company has not yet announced plans to bring the title, based on Epic's Unreal Engine 4, to consoles. The game's teaser trailer is reproduced below.
