Nvidia has scored a major win in its tit-for-tat game bundling battle with arch-rival AMD, announcing that it will be including highly-anticipated third-person hack-'em-up Watch Dogs in with selected GeForce GTX desktop graphics cards.
Announced
back in 2012, Watch Dogs puts the player in charge of violent technologist Aiden Pearce who can use the environment around him as a weapon through high-tech hacking. Originally scheduled as a launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 consoles in November, the game suffered a
last-minute delay as Ubisoft worked to ensure a polished experience for its risky new franchise. Although the game is cross-platform, Ubisoft claims to have concentrated hard on the PC release - to the extent that it is recommending a
eight-core processor to get the most from the game's engine.
Despite the delay, Ubisoft's ill-considered gift of a Nexus tablet to press attending its most recent unveiling event, and concerns that the title has been graphically downgraded since its original teaser trailer, expectations remain high for the game - which is why Nvidia has scored something of a coup by grabbing the title for bundling with its GeForce GTX processors.
The game, Nvidia has confirmed, will be bundled with Nvidia GeForce GTX 660, 660 Ti, 670, 680, 690, 760, 770, 780, 780 Ti, and the top-end Titan boards at now extra cost. With the game including some Nvidia-specific technologies - namely temporal anti-alisasing (TXAA) to reduce the flickering of edges and transparencies in motion, and horizon-based ambient occlusion (HBAO+) for improved shadow realism - it's clear the company is hoping the offer will tempt gamers into an early upgrade.
The offer is valid at the usual raft of retailers from today onwards, while the game itself won't be available until its official launch date of the 27th of May.
