Paramount has announced it is working on a new game based on the Star Trek franchise, with Unreal co-developer Digital Extremes set to create the game set in the restarted universe of the new films.
The new game, which is currently untitled, won't be based on JJ Abrams' new Star Trek films, but will explore the same universe and characters. The story will focus on an alien race and it's attempts to conquer the galaxy
The game is described as a 'co-operative action-adventure', with players taking the role of both Kirk and Spock as they attempt to fend off these alien invaders. Popular rumour suggests that the baddies in question will be the Klingons, but neither Paramount or Digital Extremes has confirmed this.
The title is currently penned for a Summer 2012 release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, meaning it will likely be released to time in with JJ Abrams' next film, which is also set for a 2012 release at the moment.
The last Star Trek game to see a major release was Atari's
Star Trek Online, which failed to wow us when it first hit shelves.
