Apparently, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't dead - it's coming out in Quarter 1 next year.
Sorry, have you heard this one before?
According to the publisher, THQ, the project is not dead and it is on track to get finished. This month's
PC Gamer magazine in the UK has an in-depth preview of the game in its current state, proclaiming it as the game which has risen from the dead.
All sorts of rumours flew around earlier this year, suggesting that most of the development team had been fired, that it was in a 'finish or finish up' situation and that it had been dropped by its publisher. Those appear to be, at least in part, untrue.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a shooter set in a post-nuclear 2012, outside Chernobyl. At this rate, it might be 2012 before we actually get to see it - the game was originally supposed to debut around the same time as Half-Life 2, and we even got to play it at the launch of the GeForce 6 series, back in 2004.
