Mythic Entertainment, the creators of popular MMORPG Dark Ages of Camelot, has unveiled its latest online-only project - Warhammer Online.

The game, based on the Games Workshop universe so popular with wargamers everywhere, has been in gestation for a number of years now, even being canned over a year ago for being too ambitious in scope.

However, it seems that Mythic has picked up the pieces of the previous development team and is now well on the way to making what they hope will be a 'next-generation' MMO.

The game will integrated Player v Player and Player v Enemy mechanics for what Mythic is calling a sophisticated Realm v Realm game dynamic.

The story is long-winded and typical of the Warhammer Universe. It involves an alliance between the forces of the Empire, the Dwarves and the High Elves in the face of a plot between the Orcs and the Dark Elves, apparently orchestrated by the minions of Chaos.

Handily, the 'good' side is named the 'Alliance of Order', which should make the game instantly familiar to Warcraft addicts.

The game will be out, we are told, in 2007.

There's a new website for the game online at WarhammerOnline.com. Go and check it out, then head over and let us know what you think in the forums.
