NZXT has unveiled a new fan family, Aer RGB, which adds full-colour LEDs controllable via the company's Hue+ and CAM software to 120mm and 140mm chassis.
While NZXT has indicated that its new Aer RGB fans are high quality and high performance, including the promise of enough static pressure to act as case fans or radiator fans, the company's most proud of the design of its integrated LED lighting system. Based around eight RGB LEDs placed around the frame underneath a light-dispersion guide designed to provide uniform illumination, the company is clearly hoping that the Aer RGBs will prove the must-have fans when paired with its Hue+ controller.
Each Aer RGB, available in 120mm and 140mm variants, can be daisy-chained up to five fans deep per channel and a maximum of ten fans in total. Fans can be grouped together for lighting control, and all twelve Hue+ lighting presets are supported along with a fully-custom mode and new fan-specific lighting modes including a 'wings' animation and an RPM-sensitive colour shift.
'As gamers ourselves, we know how important is [sic] to combine performance and aesthetics without compromising one versus the other. This is why we are expanding the Hue+ digital lighting ecosystem by designing Aer RGB to provide advanced lighting options while delivering an optimised airflow for your system,' boasted NZXT founder and chief executive Johnny Hou at the unveiling. 'Advanced users can fully fine-tune their system’s illumination and those seeking to simply improve aesthetics will enjoy the available presets.'
UK pricing for the fans has yet to be set ahead of a planned late October launch with NZXT setting a US manufacturer's suggested retail price of $29.99 in 120mm and $34.99 in 140mm (around £23 and £27 respectively, excluding taxes). Triple-packs will also be available, priced at $79.99 in 120mm and $89.99 in 140mm (around £61 and £68 respectively, excluding taxes), while bundles of two fans with a Hue+ controller will cost the same.
