Graphics tablet giant Wacom has announced the launch of two new 'creative mobile computers' aimed at artists and other creatives: the Wacom MobileStudio Pro 13 and 16.

Building on the company's combined tablet and display Cintiq devices, the Wacom MobileStudio Pro goes a step further and offers an all-in-one solution which can be used entirely free from a host machine. Specifications, naturally, vary depending on the model purchased: the entry-level MobileStudio Pro 13 packs a 13.3in 2,560x1,440 (WQHD) IPS display, a range of sixth-generation Intel Core processors, 64GB to 512GB of solid-state storage with SDXC expansion, 4GB to 16GB of DDR3 memory, and multi-touch sensitivity with the bundled Wacom Pro Pen 2 offering 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt recognition.

The larger MobileStudio Pro 16, meanwhile, ups the display to a 15.6in model with a 3,840x2,160 (UHD) resolution, a choice of 256GB to 512GB SSD, 8GB to 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia Quadro M600M 2GB or Quadro M1000M 4GB dedicated graphics processor. In both cases, an optional Wacom Link package can turn the device into a tethered Cintiq-style display-and-tablet, allowing the MobileStudio Pros to be used either standalone or tethered to a more powerful workstation. An optional 3D depth-sensing camera module is also available as an option on the top-end Pro 13 and both Pro 16 models.

'Unlike most general-purpose mobile tablets created for the mass market, Wacom’s MobileStudio Pro was designed specifically for the needs of the creative professional and how they work,' crowed Wacom's Ed Neumann at the unveiling. 'Our long-standing relationship with the professional creative community enabled us to develop a game-changing solution for the creative market that exceeds customer expectations and provides the best, most natural and precise creative experience imaginable.'

UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, with Wacom setting European recommended retail pricing of €1,599.90 to €2,699.90 for the MobileStudio Pro 13 and €2,599.90 to €3,199.90 for the MobileStudio Pro 16 (around £1,407-£2,376 and £2,287-£2,815 respectively, excluding taxes) ahead of November availability. More information is available on the official website.
