Fans
After the chassis stepped up in such a cool way, I then got to work on my fan grills. Taking a styling queue and inspiration from mnpctech, I ran to my local RC car shop and found some 5 spoke RC truck tire rims. I really, really wanted the 5 spoke Cragar rims, but they simply were not big enough. So I found something that was as close to the design as I could find:
I took a hack saw to the rim to cut it down to only the front facade of the rim, and then sanded and filed that down into a reasonable depth. I then needed to create a rim "holder" that could be screwed into the 4 corner posts of the fan location. I cut a square piece of acrylic, and (using an adjustable hole saw) I cut out the precise circumference hole that the mag needed to pass thru the square acrylic. I had also ordered carbon fiber "vinyl" and I used that o overlay the acrylic frame. I then mounted the rim in the hole of the acrylic frame using glue/adhesive.
To mount these over the fans, I used aluminium spacers to give the frame some space between the grill and the fan and test mounted it on the power supply first.
I created an identical grill, same process as before, but this time I mounted it over the rear 120mm fan (exhaust fan).
