DVD-R/RW
As with the slot drive I relocated and changed the activity LED and had the cover and front bezel chromed. I also did the backlit eject button mod. I was a lot more nervous with this drive as it was five times the cost to replace as the slot DVD so I couldn\'t afford any mistakes. In addition to these same mods I also...
Masked and vinyl dyed the tray and end piece black. This was another one of that attention to detail things as by this stage of the project I was well and truly on a mission to seek out and destroy any hint of beige that might show itself.
I also drilled the end piece and tray to take 4mm set screws and nuts to hold on the plexi cover I was making. The nuts wouldn\'t have sat flat due to some protruding plastic wedges under the front of the tray so the dremel and a cutting tool were used to cut these back.
The plan also called for a plexi panel on the bottom of the drive.
This was cut out with a hacksaw, filed to shape and drilled (along with the bottom cover) to take countersunk self-tapping screws (the same ones you use for mounting case fans). I wired up a couple of LEDs and tested the whole lot. I had a lot more room under the PCB in this drive and less LEDs so it was much easier to wire up.
In place...and in action.
