The remaining part of the PROTEX clip is fastened with an M4 rivet in the hole closest to the catch, and an M4 screw that passes through a hole drilled through both the band and the other pipe section.



From the back you can see the curve of the bands. After test-fitting, the position of the bands was marked against the case, and 4 mounting holes drilled. Corresponding holes were drilled in the bands.



To finish off, I cut sections off each end cap (this took aaaaages with a hacksaw as the steel in these was very thick). I cleaned these up and then secured the pipes to the case with M4 screws and nuts.



The end caps are only just sitting in there for these pictures, as I still have a lot of work to do installing indicators and switches into these pipe sections. I'll probably either screw or epoxy the end caps in place when I've finished this section. The keypad that will sit against the other end of the pipes is a good size, almost exactly the height of the two pipe sections together.

PROTEX Clamps

The clamps I'm using on the bands are made by PROTEX in the UK, though are available worldwide (I got mine from a local place here in Australia). The ones I'm using are adjustable, which makes things easy with fitting, as I can always tighten them up later if my holes a mm or two out. I chose these particular ones as they fit with the concept of the mod, being the sorts of clamps one might see holding pressure cylinders or fire extinguishers in place, or locking down the lids of service hatches and so on in industrial installations. Being stainless steel helps too.

They were pretty expensive though, at about A$40 each (£17 / US$31), and I had to buy TEN (which hurt), but they can't be beaten for looks.



The clamps I bought originally came with different catches, but I persuaded the place I bought them from to swap them for a plain, straight catch that would work with the bands I wanted them for.



As the new catches were about a mm in-total too wide for the clamp to fit, I ground off a fraction of each side.
