When is it Over?

From basic mod to mega-project, a project log is a record, an inspiration (or warning) to others, a sharing of ideas, a journey. But what happens when the project is finished, the final update posted, and the people have come and gone.

To many, there is a real sense of loss when an exciting project finishes. A community often builds up inside a good log. People who have followed it for months feel like they’ve lost an old friend, despite the thrill of finally seeing the finished mod. When all is done, where to then?

Many logs end up as the basis for a magazine feature. If you’ve written your log well, it makes it much easier to translate into print, though you’ll often be asked to put in 2,000 words and a dozen pictures, what you’ve may have spent six months, 10,000 words and hundreds of pictures telling.

Likewise, you may be invited to turn your forum-based project log into a front-page article: once again, a well written and photographed project log will give you a huge advantage (and may be the reason you were invited in the first place). With your permission, elements of your project log may end up in books. If you’re really lucky and your project absolutely kicks, you may end up being asked, and sponsored, by one of the big companies to mod a case for them. A good project tied to a good log opens doors.

Zen and the art of the Project Log The end of your training

Even if you know your mod will never be on a front page or magazine cover, at the least, putting some effort into your project log will gain you the respect and admiration of your peers. If you’ve poured your heart and soul into a mod, you owe it to yourself to spend the time in your project log to do it justice. Know there will be many, many people out there who will love reading about it.
