Take-Two Interactive has formally announced that the much anticipated
BioShock 2 will not be released this October as originally planned. Instead, Take-Two has pushed the release date of the game back to a much vaguer "
fiscal year 2010", according to
Kotaku.
The game, which was originally planned to hit stores in the UK on October 30th and worldwide November 3rd, is now unlikely to get a release before Christmas 2009 according to Take-Two.
The delays have apparently come about because of "
a need to provide additional development time for the title," says Take-Two - which should hopefully mean that the game is even better when it is finally released. Hopefully.
Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick has claimed that, while the move is a disappointment for both gamers and the company, it is definitely the right decision for the product. It played that badly, eh?
"
The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2," Take-Two CEO Ben Feder said in a financial release. "
We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve."
This is the third game which Take-Two has announced delays on recently, with
Red Dead Redemption and
Mafia II both getting new 2010 release dates recently also.
