Foreword by Wil Harris
Oliver Konig, aka Butterkneter, is one of Germany's top modders. We've featured his previous Battlefield 2 mods
in these pages before. This time around, he teamed up with Electronic Arts to produce a mod based on the new multiplayer game, Battlefield 2142. The end result is, in typical Olly style, a very slick result. We hope you enjoy this worklog - here's a quick preview of the end result!
Battlefield 2142 case mod by Butterkneter and L0b0
Having worked with EA to produce some mods to promote the previous version of Battlefield, I was keen to hook up with those guys again to do something around the new release of the game, 2142. EA asked me to put together mods of the same design, and today I'm presenting one of them to you.
I asked my buddy Heiko Rupp, aka L0bo, to help me out. We ordered some pizza to fuel our ideas engine, and we ended up drafting the first concepts for the mods on the back of the empty pizza boxes.
Here you can see the concept sketches we made for the mod, some CAD sketches of the mechanics. I needed to accurately mark up the parts of the tripod and the rocket pod on the side to avoid making serious metalworking mistakes.
We rendered up our ideas to get a clearer idea of what the final product would end up looking like. I also wanted to get an idea of where we'd put decals and logos.
We built a scale model out of foam to get an idea of size.
