The wildly popular and successful Bioshock is getting an iOS port and heading to the iPad and iPhone.
Publisher 2K promises BioShock will be a premium priced release that doesn’t rely on micro-transactions to make the title profitable.
BioShock’s iOS port will work on the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C and the iPad 4, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2. It will feature controls optimised for the touch screen interface but will strive to remain as faithful as possible to the original shooter other than that.
Some graphical features will have to take a hit and senior producer Brian Lowe has explained that dynamic shadows have had to go and the way fog is displayed has been changed.
The game was announced via 2K’s Twitter feed but no release date has yet been confirmed and no Android version has been planned as of yet.
2K has seen some success with iOS ports of PC games in the form of Firaxes’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown which saw a very faithful recreation of the turn-based alien combat strategy game for mobile devices.
The publisher has also had experience with more real-time titles in the form of the Grand Theft Auto ports, releasing Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas to date.
