In a race dubbed 'the core wars', manufactures are stuffing more and more cores into CPUs. While more can only be a good thing, there's little point if the software they are running can't use them. Microsoft shares with us a possible piece of the puzzle to making full use of multi-core CPUs.

AMD updates its Deneb core on its fastest Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, and claims the C3 can overclock more, yield faster DDR3 memory and has even fixed the performance bug with its sleep states. Does it make a difference? We put the claims to the test.

One of AMD's cheapest quad cores to date is a further evolution of the Athlon brand: the Athlon II X4 630 and 620. Without cache we check to see how it performs against Intel alternatives for the same money, if cache makes a difference and if it overclocks better.

The original Bloomfield Core i7s were a huge leap forward, providing masses of performance, both out of the box and when overclocked. Ten months on, Intel has finally released the range of CPUs to fill the gap between Core 2 and Core i7 with the new Lynnfield-core CPUs.

Corsair has achieved the holy grail and made a low cost liquid cooler, the Hydro H50, that actually does what it should: it provides very good cooling for your CPU, it doesn't sound like a hurricane and isn't ridiculously expensive. Does this spell the end of air cooling as we know it?
